Random Thought

The cars' tires on Main Street, Rapid City, SD, sound like trotting horses.

Now and Then

Yes, nobody's reading this, but who cares? Gotta start somewhere. I guess this is the track of my quest for balance - skeptic and believer both, how do I reconcile? And my new goal is focusing on the 'now', as the popular book tells us.
Surprisingly, I've found it to work very well, although it's hard to keep up, and sometimes tough to know if you're actually doing it or not. Like everything else though, I suppose if you aren't sure, then you're not doing it, and if you're doing it, you are sure. If you're totally confused, read "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. Even if you take out all the new agey asides, it's still a great book. Since I read it, I've been seeing references to focusing on the present ALL over the place, in all kinds of writings. Is it popular suddenly, or maybe I just didn't pay attention then? Like when you buy a car, suddenly you see that same car everywhere. In any case, that seems to indicate more of a "correct" direction when you find the same suggestion all over the place, in all different religions and spiritualities.
After reading the book we travelled to the Black Hills in South Dakota, supposedly a pretty mystical place in its own right, and a damn nice vacation if you love scenery. On a side trip over to Devils' Tower in Wyoming, I looked up at a pine and saw a cloud leaving its upper branches, swirling out and disappearing. It was very quick, and there were no smokers in the area (I checked) which would have totally explained the cloud or smoke. My husband, who didn't see it, just said "well, you're more open to those kinds of things than I am". I thought he wouldn't believe me; just goes to show.
Recently we visited the Whaley House in San Diego, too, which is supposed to be severely haunted. And boy do they play on that! Of course that's why almost everyone tours it. While walking through, we heard two older ladies talking, and one of them said "Oh, something really bad definitely happened in this room. I can feel it." Pardon me but my skeptical side is like, 'yeah, right' - sounds like every 2 bit pseudo psychic I've ever heard. My believer side took note of places where I felt deep chills... The film's not developed yet so no idea if we've caught anything on the photos or not! If we did, and we send it down to the Whaley people, maybe they'll mount it on the big posterboard of "strange" photos they have up smack in the middle of the view of a beautiful courtroom. :P

That's what it is, alright, a new blog.
